Religious Spots in India

India is a land of varied religions and faiths. There are century-old temples, elegant mosques, churches and impressive gurudwaras. While visiting India, you will come across numerous temples and mosques at almost every corner of the street. The famous pilgrimage centers of the country attract lakhs of pilgrims and tourists from across the globe every year especially during the festive seasons.

India’s 2000 year-old architectural heritage is intrinsically linked to the country’s major religions. Architectural marvel is noticed in the indigenous forms that include Buddhist Stupas, monasteries and Hindu and Jain temples in diverse styles. The Indian temples share common characteristics-stone built and richly carved with sacred imagery and decorative motifs. The use of mortar was introduced by the Muslim rulers in the 12th century.

The major religious spots of India are Badrinath, Gangotri, Bodhgaya, Vaishali, Golden Temple, Jama Masjid, Anandpur Sahib, Church of St. Francis, Tirupati, Madurai and Puri.
