Passport for Indians
Passport is the gateway for your entry into another country. The External Affairs Ministry of India issues passport to Indian citizens through its Consular Passport and Visa (CPV) Division. One can apply for passport in either of 28 local or 160 abroad missions in the jurisdiction of the area in which one resides.
Procedure for ApplyingThe procedure starts with filling the application form online. Fill all the needed information without making any mistake and submit it. As soon as it is submitted an appointment date and time is given to you; on that day you have to appear in passport office along with print out of the form, attested copies of all the necessary documents and requisite fees.
Documents to be submitted along with Application FormAll the below mentioned copies must be attested by Gazetted officer.
- Residence proof
- Date of birth proof
- (If name has been changed) change of name affidavit
- Documents for ECNR
- Expired passport (in case of renewal)
- 3 passport size photographs
- Educational certificates/marksheets
Usually the passport is delivered to your home after 45 working days. However in case of emergency
‘Tatkaal’ scheme enables you to obtain a fresh or duplicate passport on payment of additional fees. The 'Tatkaal' Scheme is only applicable in case of minors (less than 15 years of age) or duplicate passport/re-issue of passport without change in address, Government servants with NOC and their spouses and applications with Verification Certificates.
