All foreign tourists can travel to India by most convenient option of airways even local tourists also find airways as the most feasible options due to shortage of time and comfort.Though there are other options of Railways and Roadways. All major international airlines fly to and from India. Air India is India’s international carrier. North America and European airlines such as British Airways, Lufthansa, Air France and Swiss International Airlines have regular flights to either some or all of India’s four major cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai. There are also numerous connections to the Far East and Australia offered by Thai Airways, Singapore Airlines, Malaysian Airlines, Japan Airlines and Cathay Pacific. Flights to destinations in the Gulf and Central Asia are offered by Emirates, Air Lanka and Golf Air.

At present, India has about 449 airports and air strips in the country. Among these the Airport Authority of India owns and manages only 92 airports and 28 civil enclaves at defense airfields. Indian airports are classified under two major categories- International and Domestic. Under domestic airports there are custom airports, model airports, other domestic airports and civil enclaves in defence airport. Custom airports have limited international operations like Bangalore (Civil Enclave), Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Calicut, Goa (Civil Enclave), Varanasi, Patna, Agra (Civil Enclave), Jaipur, Amritsar, Tiruchirapally, Coimbatore, Lucknow. Bhubaneswar, Guwahati, Nagpur, Vadodara, Imphal and Indore have model airports with a limited runway length of 7500 feet. There are 28 civil enclaves in Defence Airfields. The major international airports in India are located in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, and Thiruvananthapuram.
