Deserts in India

Miles of gigantic horizon, sand mounds, scorching heat, nomadic life and that too with a camel safari, this is what Indian deserts look like. Deserts in India are mainly spread over the states of Rajasthan and southern portion of Gujarat and Punjab.

Their eloquent history and never changing dynamics have surely a catch of eye among sightseers around the globe. World famous Thar Desert is spread over huge area of more than 200,000 km2 (77,000 sq. mi.) and being the 9th largest tropical desert in the world, it is one of the most sought after tourist place in India.

 In the land where there’s almost no water, the basic utilities: the habitats, animals, vegetation and the surviving life cycle is truly a surprise. Ancient times of its existence have accustomed the living beings to get habitual of this place and to survive without water and other resources for uncertain periods of time.

Addition to that, the beauty of Thar mesmerizes millions of people who travel down to experience this and are hosted by the locals in a very warm manner. Especially in Jaisalmer and Bikaner the desert parts of Rajasthan, Travelers experiences desert festivals and the amazing nightlife of dunes.

Folk dance performances, regional music and local cuisines are enjoyed, while sitting in between a vast desert makes it a memorable experience. There are other parts of Rajasthan which covers the deserted areas viz.  Churu, Sriganganagar, Pali, Jalore, Barmer, Nagaur and Jodhpur.

For the locals who live by the desert areas, tourism and cattle rearing is the main occupation as there’s no fertile land or any modern amenities to make up for their living. They tread a content life in roaming and entertaining national and foreign tourists, in spite of seeming to be many hardships or adversity, which hardly affects them.

There are different paramount from which a desert can be enjoyed, viz. camel safari, which is an awesome way to explore Indian desert, wild life sanctuaries which doesn’t fall in midst of a vast desert, but it definitely gives a panache’s view of deserted landscapes, for the keen watchers and then there are locals or adventurers who can travel any distance or to mid falls just to seek the mystery of about what we known as sand caves. Though, there’s always a mystified elements behind deserts which one can never fully reveal, the deeper we reach the lesser it seems.
