Sports Awards in India

Sports awards in India are given by the Sports Ministry of India to honour the players who have performed very well in their field of sport. It is done so as to enhance the player’s spirit and recognize his or her achievements. It is also intended to help and support sportspersons with outstanding caliber.

Sports awards which are given in India are:

Arjuna Award: Some of the winners in this category are Soma Biswas and Anju B. george in atheletics, Pankaj Advani in billiards and snooker, Virender Shewag in cricket, and Samaresh Jung in shooting.

Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna: Some of the recipients of this award are Pullela Gopi Chand in badminton, Dhanraj Pillay in hockey, and Sachin Tendulkar in cricket.

Dronacharya Award: Some of the recipients of this award are Robert Bobby George in athletics, Machael Joseph Ferreira in billards and snookers, and Anoop Kumar in boxing.

Dhyan Chand Award for Life Time Achievement in Sports and Games: Some of the recipients of this award are Hardayal Singh in hockey, Gurcharan Singh in boxing.
