Sagar Sarhadi was a noted writer and filmmaker. Also a director and producer, he worked with many leading actors and directors. Sarhadi was known for his work on films like Noorie, Bazaar, Kabhi Kabhie, Silsila, Chandni, Deewana, and Kaho Na Pyar Hai.
Born on 11th May 1933 at Ganga Sagar Talwar near Abottabad city (now Pakistan), Sarhadi debuted in Bollywood in 1976 with Yash Chopra’s romance Kabhi Kabhie, for which he penned the screenplay and dialogues. He won the Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue for his work. His glorious collaboration with the late Yash Chopra continued and he penned the screenplay in films like "Silsila" and Sridevi and Rishi Kapoor starrer "Chandni", for which he wrote the dialogues. In 1982, Sarhadi turned director with "Bazaar", starring Supriya Pathak Shah, Farooq Shaikh, Smita Patil and Naseeruddin Shah. Sarhadi went on to write screenplay for Noorie (1979). Sarhadi’s work in Bollywood spanned several decades as he wrote even in the ’90s for Shah Rukh Khan’s big screen debut Deewana (1992) and later for Hrithik Roshan’s acting debut Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000).
