Ashoka was the ruler of Mauryan dynasty and ruled almost all parts Indian subcontinent along with south Asia and Persia from 273 BC to 232 BC. The world wide famous emperor Asoka is known for the propagation of Buddhism globally and the Battle of kalinga.
The victory in the popular war of kalinga killed thousand’s of people this led him to embrace Buddhism and widen the message of tolerance in his empire. He established many monuments, in relation to the Buddha’s life, one of the most popular being the Ashoka Pillar at Sarnath.
