Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai, formerly known as Sahar International Airport, is the primary international airport serving the Mumbai Metropolitan Area.

 Later the airport was renamed to honor the valor of the Maratha Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai is the second biggest airport in India, followed by IGI Airport, Delhi.

Mumbai Airport

The airport was the 14th busiest airport in Asia and 28th busiest airport in the world by passenger traffic in the year 2017. Its passenger traffic was about 49.8 million in the year 2018. 

This airport has also received the World's Best Airport" at Airport Service Quality Awards 2017 in the highest category of airports handling over 40 million passengers annually by Airports Council International. 

It has also won the "Best Airport in India and Central Asia" award at the Skytrax 2016 World Airport Awards.

The airport is operated by Mumbai International Airport Limited (MIAL). The airport is located in the suburbs of Santacruz and Sahar Village in Vile Parle East. 

The terminal-2 building, which can accommodate 40 million passengers annually, has been conferred with the American Institute of Architect (AIA) Award 2020.

How to reach

To reach the domestic airport known as terminal T1, the nearest local railway station is Vile Parle station on the Western Suburban Railway Line.

Get down there and come outside to Vile Parle (East). From there you can hire an auto-rickshaw or opt for public best buses from the train station to the airport.

To reach the International Airport Terminal T2 in Mumbai, the nearest local railway station is Andheri (East). For International Flights, get down on Airport Road and Marol Naka metro railway stations by using the Metro Line 1 to reach the International Terminal.

Domestic Terminal

Both the terminals of Mumbai Airport have the same name. Terminal 1 of the Mumbai airport which hosts domestic flights is located in the suburb of Santacruz. 

Terminal 1 is much smaller as compared to Terminal 2 and also hosts the same runway for the impending flights.

The terminal is further divided into Terminal 1A, Terminal 1B, and Terminal 1C. Terminal 1A is permanently shut down as of the year 2016. Terminal 1B hosts the arrivals and departures operations. Terminal 1C incorporates the food court and is the official waiting area for passengers.
