Ramakrishna Mission
Ramakrishna Mission is a socio-religious movement started by Ramakrishna Paramhans in 1896 and was carried forward by his disciple Swami Vivekanand from 1897. The mission was initiated with a group of monks as its reformers. Two organizations came up as a result of the mission; one is Ramakrishna Maths and Ramakrishna Mission in Belur Math. The Mission works for the improvement in health care, disaster relief, rural management, tribal welfare, elementary and higher education and culture whereas Ramakrishna Math primarily focuses on spiritual training and the propagation of the movement's teachings among masses.
Ramakrishna mission taught people to practice and preach "Renunciation and Service". The Motto of the organization is "Atmano Mokshartham Jagad-hitaya Cha" meaning 'for one's own salvation, and for the good of the world'.
