Life of Laishram Devendro Singh:
Devendro Singh was born on 2nd March 1992 in Imphal West district in Manipur. He was born to parents Jugindro Singh and Maklembi Devi. His sister, Sushila Devi is a former national boxing champion who helps her brother with his training. Devendro Singh qualified for the Olympics 2012 in London by reaching the quarter finals of the 2011 World Amateur Boxing Championships in Baku. His qualification for the 2012 Olympics boxing was based on the World Series of Boxing (WSB) Individual Championships, World Amateur Boxing Championships 2011 and five Continental Olympic qualifying events.
Devendro Singh also participated in the World Amateur Boxing Championships and was selected after his flawless performance in the trials for the World Championships held in the Army Sports institute.
He defeated Asian Amateur Boxing Championship silver medalists Nanao Singh Thokchom and Mandeep Singh during the trials. Devendro Singh earned the Olympic berth after he reached the quarter finals, where he was defeated by his South Korean opponent Shin Jong Hun by a point’s difference.
In the 2012 London Olympics, He qualified for the quarter finals after defeating the 2008 Beijing Olympics silver medalist Purevdorjiin Serdamba.
He then faced Paddy Barnes of Ireland, who was the winner of the bronze medal in the 2008 Olympics. Devendro Singh lost in his match against Barnes and was knocked out of the Olympics.
