Life of Javed Akhtar
Javed was born as Jadoo Akhtar in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh on 17th January, 1945. His father, Jan Nisar Akhtar was a poet and film songwriter and his mother, Safia Akhtar was a teacher, writer and a singer.
Javed was married to Honey Irani with whom he has two children- Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. Both are recognized personalities as actors and established film directors. After divorcing his first wife, Javed Akhtar married Shabana Azmi, a leading face in Indian cinema.
Javed received the Best Lyrics for the movie ‘ Saaz’ in 1996, National Awards for the films ‘ Border’ and ‘ Godmother’ in the years 1997 and 1998 respectively. He has also been awarded ‘ National Integration Award’ from the All India Anti – Terrorist Association in 2001 and Hakim Khan Sur Sammaan Award from the Maharana Mewar Foundation, Udaipur in 2003. He is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi Award.
Career of Javed Akhtar
As a scriptwriter and lyricist Akhtar has written for many successful films like Andaz, Seeta aur Geeta, Sholey, Don, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, Deewar, Haathi Mere Saathi, Zanjeer, Mr. India, Veer-Zaara, Dil Chahta Hai, Lakshya, Tezaab, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Silsila, Om Shanti Om, Jodhaa Akbar, Border, Kal Ho Naa Hoand many more. As a lyricist, Javed is more acknowledged. His lyrics brought him more fame and fortune. Some of his most successful work was carried out with Salim Khan. Half of the script-writing duo is credited as Salim-Javed between 1971 to 1982.Awards of Javed Akhtar
Javed Akhtar has been bestowed with several awards such as Padma Shri Award in 1999, Padma Bhusan in 2007. He has achieved several Filmfare Awards in categories like Best Script, Best Lyrics and so on.
