Kamet

The summit was first ascended in 1939 by Andre Roch, D. Zogg and F. Steuri- all of them were Swiss nationals. But the first ever success came only in 1976 by Joe Tasker and Dick Renshaw.

The place is popular among the Alpine-style mountaineers. Dunagiri gives the longest view of the Himalayan region of the entire Kumaun and Garhwal.

Kanchenjunga

Things to Remember:
Kangchenjunga is a sacred mountain for the Nepalese, Sikkimese or even for the locals of Dajeeling; so the permission for climbing the mountain is not given very often by both the Indian and Nepalese Governments. Hence, the mountain is still not much explored and has several virgin points preserving its pristine beauty.

The expedition to Kangchenjunga takes a vast amount of time containing 45-48 days or more. Climbing Kangchenjunga is somewhat harder than climbing Mt. Everest and therefore needs highly expertise professional mountaineers.

Most expeditions start from Biratnagar, Nepal having the base camp at an altitude of 4500 mts.
The trek from Taplejung is particularly full off avalanche prone rocky terrains including some of the most extreme weather conditions hindering the path ahead.

The best time to climb world’s third highest mountain is both the spring (March to May) and the autumn (September to November).

Rathong

Rathong is the beautiful peak of 6678 mt mainly praised for the icy glacier which is located in the western part of the state of Sikkim.

It lies on the border of India and Nepal. The first climbing on the Rathong peak was done in 1963 by the Indian Army and two Indian civilians in an initiative of the Indian pre-Everest climbing team.

5. Mekedatu Trek
98 km from Bangalore city, Mekedatu makes a very good choice for climbing and trekking. It is located on the Mysore Road in Srirangapatna. The trekking point at the Karingatta Hill (2697 feet above sea level) also has a nice walking besides the Kaveri River.

6. Anthargange Trek
It is located around 68 km away from the city. Anthargange (1226 mt above the sea level) is formed of the volcanic rocks and has a terrain typically ideal for trekking and hiking. 

The series of caves and hillocks take the tourists to an ancient time during the enjoyable trekking session. The ideal time for trekking, climbing and hiking is from November to February.

7. Skandagiri Trek

70 km away from Bangalore city there lies another gorgeous place which lures the adventure tourists with its open hands and the place is called Skandagiri. Skandagiri also known as Kalavara Durga is a hilltop which is covered by the lush dense forests and overlooks the Nandi Hills.

It is one of the most popular trekking destinations situated just outside Bangalore. The tourists follow the eight kilometers long trek passing through the walls of Tipu Sultan’s fort. 

8. Madhugiri
The second largest monolith in Asia, Madhugii is a hilltop with a magnificent height of 3030 ft. Madhugiri is a popular trekking place located 100 km far from the Bangalore city.

There are ruins of the Gopalakrishna Temple at the peak. The surrounding areas look astonishing from the peak. The total length of the trek is about three kilometers and is of easy by nature.

9. Antara Gange

10. Kanakpura Trek
The very beautiful Kanakpura hill range offers many popular trekking destinations very near to Bangalore. Kanakpura trail is located about 55 kilometers far from the city and is situated on the bank of Arkavathi River at 2090 feet above the sea level.

11. Shivaganga

6. Mullayangiri, Chikmagalur

Narasimha Parvata is situated 350 kilometers away from Bangalore and is another popular destination for the trekking enthusiasts. This peak is the highest peak of the Agumbe range of the Western Ghats.

It needs two days to cover the entire trail and also needs around 10 hours of moderately strenuous trekking to reach the top of the hill. 

The trekking path of Narasimha Parvat consists of nice green forests and uneven land dappled with grass. The sun rise and the sun set are something to watch out from this hilltop.

8. Kodachadri
Kodachadri is a hill situated in Shimoga locality and is of over a thousand meters high covered with a dense green forest and offers a stunning trail for trekking. 

Kodachadri is famous both as a trekking destination and housing the well known Mookambika Temple. This long terrain features a plethora of wildlife variations as well as some delightful waterfalls and a striking Nagara Fort. 

9. Kudremukh

This bumpy trek does not include any major climbing or hiking; one can even take a bicycle ride to cover the distance. The whole trail runs parallel to the great Tungabhadra River banks.

Trekking in Tamil Nadu

These are some popular destinations for Trekking in Tamil Nadu:

1. Udhagamandalam (Ooty)

Siruvani or Kovai Kutralam Waterfall is located 535 kms away from Chennai and around 36 Kms far from Coimbatore Railway Station. The falls are the parts of the Siruvani Hills. The hills are mostly covered by dense forests. 

A four kilometer trek starting from the crossing of the Siruvani Dam and Madavarayapuram needs to be taken to reach the waterfalls. The trekking terrain offers a moderately challenging trail. 

3. Perumal Peak
Nilgiri range offers some of the best places for adventure trips such as trekking. Perumal Peak one such place which is one of the most popular trekking destinations of the state of Tamil Nadu. 

Perumal Peak or the Perumal Malai Peak is situated at Kodaikanal and 11 kms far from Coimbatore city. It has an elevation of 2440 mt. The trekkers can take time to visit the beautiful Pannaikadu village nearby.

4. Dolphin’s Nose
Dolphin’s Nose is one of the easiest yet popular trekking destinations in Tamil Nadu. It is also situated at Kodaikanal and has an eight kms long trekking trail going among the green forest and by the side of a beautiful river.

5. Thalaiyar Falls or the Rat Trail Falls

1. Ahobilam

The hilltop has a height of 327 meters. The legend says that this is place where Lord Vishnu’s Narasimga avatar killed Hiranyakasipu to save Prahlada. 

The temples wee built in the 16th century though there were several inscriptions found which belonged to the Chalukyas of 8th century. The hill is covered by a dense forest of Nallamala. 

The total number of nine shrines of the two temples can be visited in two consecutive days. The best trekking base is Lower Ahobilam. 
 
2. Kadalivanam Caves
Kadalivanam Caves are natural caves situated 12 Kms away from Akka Mahadevi Caves and 22 Kms from Srisailam. The trekking route from Mahadevi Cves to the caves of Kadalivanam through multiple hills offers a great escapade for the trekking enthusiasts. 

The huge cave under a natural rock shelter can easily put up around 500 people. Several manmade and used stone-tools were found at this site which proves the existence of stone-age human population here at this part. 

3. Tyda Nature Camp
The nature-loving, adventure seeking soul in you can easily get indulged in a great way at the Tyda Nature Camp which is located at 40 Kms away from Araku and 70 Kms away from Vizag city. 

This tiny tribal village is situated on the hills of Eastern Ghats nestling between Vizag and Araku. The nature cam which is also known as the Jungle Bells offers trekking, rock climbing and bird watching etc. 

4. Talakona Waterfalls Trekking

Talakona is one of the highest waterfalls in the state of Andhra Pradesh which has a height of 270 feet. This waterfall is located inside the Sri Venkateswara National Park in Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh. It is 49 Kms far from Tirupati and 23 Kms from the Bakarapeta town. 

The trek would likely to take 30 minutes to an hour for one way. The best season to get a trek here at Talakona falls is from November to January.

5. Katiki Waterfalls
A short but adventurous trek through a dense green forest and a narrow uneven and slippery terrain would lead you to a stunning place of natural beauty- the Katiki Waterfall.

Katiki waterfall is situated 38 Kms far from Araku near the famous Limestone caves of Borra. This 120 feet high fall is a popular destination in Andhra Pradesh as a moderate trekking point. The trekking would take around 2-3 hours.
