However, these days more and more women are either travelling in an all girls group or even travelling solo. Though every women can travel in all parts, one just needs to keep alert while travelling alone.

Women indulge in a lot of activities like trekking, swimming, visiting local museums, meeting and interacting with locals, tasting local food and ofcourse shopping!

Shillong (Meghalaya)

This capital city of Meghalaya, Shillong is also called the ‘abode of the clouds’. This is a quaint hill station that is a very popular destination for a lot of women travelers. 

There are many good lodges and hotels here to fit different budgets. You can sit for hours seeing the Elephant falls, check out the Sangma State Museum or simply play golf and unwind at the Shillong golf course.

Mysore (Karnataka)

Karnataka is one of the safest places in the country for the women travellers. The heritage of this city boasts of the Chalukayas, Chola and Hoysalas dynasties. You can check out places like Mysore Palace, Rail Museum, Mysore Zoo, etc.

Khajuraho (Madhya Pradesh)

Khajuraho, the UNESCO world heritage site is a must see. Being a woman traveler you may have people staring at you but the city is relatively safe.

Popular places here include the Adinath temple, Lakshmi Temple, Parshwanath Temple, Lord Mahavira Temple and Matangeshwar Mahadev Temple. The two lakes offer a peaceful respite form the crowded city.

The ayurvedic massages here are very popular but do only go to places that are trustworthy or reputed. Along with it, try the street food and visit the local markets for a souvenir. The city has its own domestic airport that is connected with major cities. You can travel by rail too.

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh)

There is no doubt that the state of Himachal Pradesh offers many different kinds of tourist destinations for women and Shimla, its capital city, is one of the them.  You can simply hang at the Mall road or check out the historic sites like Christ Church. 

The Ridge, Viceregal Lodge, Town Hall, Jakhu Temple, Gaiety Museum, State Museum, Bhima Kali Temple and Jakhu Temple. Enjoy the local wine in moderation. 

Shimla has its own airport and is accessible by road and train and through the Kalka Shimla Railway.

Jaipur (Rajasthan)

The capital city of Rajasthan, Jaipur has so much to offer that a woman traveler will surely not get bored. It is also a city that is known to respect women since historic times.

Nainital (Uttarakhand)

You can bathe a pachyderm in the Dubare Elephant Camp and check out the many temples and rituals that are carried out here.
