Beaches in Tamil Nadu

      The southern state of Tamil Nadu is the proud home of some of the most remarkable beaches in the country. As the eastern part of the state is bordered by the Bay of Bengal.

      Kanyakumari Beach

      Formerly called Cape Comorin, the beach is an exclusive site in the world where three seas meet—the Bay of Bengal in the east, Arabian sea in the West and Indian Ocean in the South meet one another.
       
      The beach is the home of several renowned tourist attractions that include Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Thiruvalluvar Statue, Gandhi Memorial, Thanumalayan Temple.

      Mahabalipuram Beach

      Mahabalipuram is situated just 60 km away from the city center of southern metropolis Chennai.  Mahabalipuram was the birthplace of the famous Pallava Dynasty and had functioned as a crucial port during the domination of Pallavas.

      Kaveripoompattinam is historically called Kaveripoompattinam and is located at a distance of forty kilometers from Chidambaram in the southern state of Tamil Nadu. 

      The holy River Kaveri merges with the Bay of Bengal at this historic place. Poompuhar is situated in Sirkali Taluk of Nagapattinam district.

      During the sovereignty of Cholas, Poompuhar was an important port. Other popular attractions of Poompuhar Beach include Silappathikara Art Gallery, Zion church, and Dutch architectural monuments.

      Covelong Beach (Kovalam)

      Kovalam is also called Covelong. The beach is located just 37 km away from Chennai. Some of the must-visit attractions of Covelong Beach include a Dutch fort, an ancient Catholic Church and ancient walls.

      Muttom Beach is located just 16 km away from Nagercoil and 32 km from Kanyakumari. The beach is celebrated for its beautiful landscaping and high rocks dipping into the sea at the beach-side.
